Small biz marketing: It’s not just about the strategy

The most annoying, yet relieving lesson I’ve learned about running a business: It’s not all about the strategy.

I spent YEARS testing strategies and platforms to market my business online. First in 2012 as a freelance website designer, side hustling to leave my corporate job. Then as a new business owner trying to grow my audience, email list, sales as fast as possible.

Now I’m a seasoned business owner needing major work/life balance to support my mental health and ADHD. It was a big relief to realize that ANY strategy works as long as I show up consistently and confidently.

Webinars, ads, affiliate promotions, freebies, referrals, Facebook groups, SEO, joint ventures, discounts, bonuses, opt-ins, weekly and monthly Q+As.

They ALL work.

But many business owners struggle to be consistent because they’re thinking:

What if I sound stupid? Say the wrong thing? Look unprofessional?

What if no one signs up? Shows up? Buys?

What if someone else did it first? Better? Differently?

Doubt will creep in every step of the way to keep you from showing up. It’s necessary to find a crazy amount of confidence, self love, and resilience to stick with whatever strategy you pick.

Journaling, finding a community online, and learning my human design have been my go-to for this. At some point you’ll catch those negative thoughts and start switching them.

What if I connect with one person who needs to hear my message today?

What if people buy and they have amazing results?

What if the way you do things is what someone has been searching for?

When you feel confident in yourself and your work it’s easier to stick to habits and be consistent. Easier to show up when things aren’t perfect, when you don’t have enough time, or when you feel like a troll every time you go to make a video. Been there!

Consistency makes pretty much any strategy work. Find habits that help boost your confidence so you can stick to your marketing plan and watch your numbers grow!
